Dr. Rodolfo Cortes was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico in September of 1959. In 1995, he obtained his MSc degree at the Centro de Investigacion Cientifica y de Educacion Superior de Ensenada B.C, Mexico, and obtained his PhD degree in 2000 at the same institute with PhD thesis titled "Fiber optic interferometers with scanning wavelength for highly sensitive sensors". After his PhD, he spent 1 year as a postdoc researcher in the Heriot-Watt University working mainly in diffractive optics to measurement of high power laser beam quality.
His research interest focuses on evanescent waves phenomena, near field microscopy with microwaves and visualization techniques applied to metrology. Dr. Cortes has published over 15 internationally peer-reviewed journal papers and has supervised 2 Master thesis. He is a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers (Level 1). Currently, Dr. Cortes has a full-time research position in CICESE, Unidad Monterrey.
